Homosexuality, Intolerance, and Christianity

A Critical Examination of John Boswell’s Work

Introduction

Homosexuality, Intolerance, and Christianity was first published as a pamphlet in 1981 by the Scholarship Committee of the New York Chapter of the Gay Academic Union. It arose from a forum held in New York in September 1980 to examine the then newly published book Christianity, Social Tolerance, and Homosexuality: Gay People in Western Europe from the Beginning of the Christian Era to the Fourteenth Century by the late John Boswell.

A second edition was published in 1985, enlarged by the addition of a substantial annotated Bibliography of Reviews of Boswell’s book.

This Internet edition is published in September 2003 by the Pink Triangle Trust by permission of the surviving authors. It provides the full text of the second edition together with a new preface by John Lauritsen and a short biographical note on each of the authors.
