Alan Mathison Turing (1912 – 1954)

The Summer 2004 issue of Gay and Lesbian Humanist carried a special feature consisting of three articles marking the fiftieth anniversary of the untimely death in June 1954 of one of Britain’s most celebrated gay atheists, Alan Turing, mathematician, codebreaker, engineer, philosopher, and freethinker par excellence.

The commemorative plaque unveiled by Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw at a ceremony on Monday 7 June 2004, the fiftieth anniversary of Alan Turing’s death, at the house in Wilmslow where he lived during the last four years of his life.
