GALHA member Lars Torstensson from Göteborg, Sweden, reports that Sweden may soon follow the lead of Denmark and Norway and become the third country to introduce a partnership law for lesbians and gays.
A committee set up to discuss the matter has narrowly voted in favour of new legislation but its most vigorous opponent, the Christian Democrat Party, has threatened to leave the government if the latter adopts the proposal.
Nevertheless, Lars says that other parties favourably disposed, including the Liberals and Social Democrats, may still carry the day and he is optimistic that the new law will be introduced by the Spring this year.
